Nokia‘s Android 11 update rollout is gradually starting to gain pace. After seeding Android 11 to the likes of Nokia 8.3 5G and Nokia 3.2 in recent months, the finish company is now bringing the latest iteration of Android OS to the users of the Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 2.3. The company has announced the stable Android 11 update rollout for the two devices through forum posts over at Nokia Community.

Nokia rolls out Android 11 to Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 2.3

The Android 11 update for the Nokia 8.1 will be rolled out in two waves. The first wave of the staged rollout begins this week and will cover users in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Macau, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. The new software will be first available to 10 percent of the total Nokia 8.1 users in these regions.

By April 10th, Nokia hopes to cover around 50 percent of the total user base. The Wave 1 rollout should complete on April 12th. The company has yet to share details about the second wave of the Android 11 rollout for the Nokia 8.1. The Wave 2 will cover the rest of the markets where the phone is available. However, it’s unclear when the rollout will begin.

The Nokia 2.3 will also be treated with Android 11 in a similar manner – in two waves. The Wave 1 will cover 18 countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hong Kong, Iceland, Latvia, Laos, Lithuania, Macau, Malaysia, Nepal, Norway, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and Vietnam.

As you might expect, Nokia once again hopes to seed Android 11 to at least 10 percent of the total Nokia 2.3 users in these regions immediately. The rollout will cover 50 percent of users by April 10th, with Wave 1 competing on April 12th. The details about Wave 2 of the Android 11 rollout for the Nokia 2.3 are also unknown.

Nokia needs to improve its software update speed

Most of Nokia’s smartphones are part of Google’s Android One program, which promises timely updates and strong software support. However, the Finnish company has been anything but “timely” with the Android 11 rollout. More than six months into the release of Android 11, only four Nokia phones have picked the new software so far.

The company has set some big ambitions after having made a successful return to the smartphone industry under HMD Global. However, if it continues to fail to live up to the expectations like this, it may struggle to find enough buyers in the coming years.

Nokia still has at least ten more models waiting to receive Android 11, according to the company’s official roadmap. Hopefully, we’ll see more devices pick up the new update sooner than later.
