The April 2021 Android security patch is now rolling out to Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 series. Both the vanilla Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra are picking up the latest Android security maintenance release (SMR). The update is currently rolling out to users in a select few European countries, including Germany, Portugal, and Austria. The rollout should expand to other regions in the coming days.
The latest update for the Galaxy Note 20 series comes with the firmware version N98xxXXS1DUD1. The update doesn't bring any new features but only this month's Android SMR. If you recall, the Galaxy Note 20 series picked up a major update last month, borrowing several new camera features from the Galaxy S21 series. So it's understandable that the latest update doesn't bring much else.
The last software update for the Galaxy Note 20 phones brought in features like portrait images in low-light conditions, Night Mode and Pro mode support with the ultrawide camera, new effects in the Portrait mode, and the ability to use the maximum possible exposure while capturing Night Mode shots.
The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are the latest Samsung smartphone to receive the April 2021 Android security update. The Korean giant began the rollout last month, with the Galaxy S21 series picking up the new update first. Since then, Samsung has rolled out the April 2021 Android security patch to the Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A52, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 10 Lite, and now, the Galaxy Note 20.
The contents of the April 2021 Android SMR are not known though. Samsung has yet to publish this month's security bulletin. However, as you can see, the company has already pushed the latest Android SMR to a number of Galaxy smartphones. So expect it to detail the contents of the new security update in the coming days.
As said earlier, the April 2021 Android security patch for the Galaxy Note 20 series is currently rolling out in a few European countries. However, it shouldn't be very long before the update reaches other regions. If you own a Galaxy Note 20 device, be on the lookout for a new software update in the coming days.
You should receive a notification once the over-the-air (OTA) update reaches your phone. You can also manually check for updates by navigating to the Software update section in your phone's Settings app. Now tap on Download and install to check and see if you have any OTA update pending download. If there's any update available, you'll be prompted to download it on the next screen.
