OnePlus’ CEO, Pete Lau, has confirmed that the OnePlus 9R will become official on March 23. Pete Lau revealed this information in an interview with News18 Tech.

The OnePlus 9R has been rumored for a while now, and also referred to as the OnePlus 9E. OnePlus did not officially confirm that the phone will launch, until now. The company was avoiding mentioning it at all, as it focused on the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro.

OnePlus' CEO just confirmed that the OnePlus 9R is coming

Well, the company’s CEO just did it, while it also talked more about the phone. He said that the OnePlus 9R will cater to “different user requirements (compared to the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro)”. He said the phone will deliver a “robust flagship experience”, while keeping its price tag low.

Mr. Lau added that the OnePlus 9R is “targeted to empower users with smooth scrolling, immersive gaming controls, and a superior viewing experience”.

The company’s CEO also implied that this phone will be more affordable than the OnePlus Nord. He did not, however, want to talk about the specifics, such as specifications, or the design.

It will be exclusive to India, though

Do note that the OnePlus 9R won’t be available in the same places as the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. The company failed to mention the phone in its advertisements thus far, and this interview basically confirmed that it's reserved for one specific market. In the source's article, it's mentioned that the OnePlus 9R is coming "specially for India". So, it will be an India exclusive, it seems.

Now, in regards to its specifications. Some information did surface a while back, but we cannot really confirm any of it. One specific rumor suggested that the phone will feature a 6.5-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

The Snapdragon 690 SoC was also mentioned by the same source, as well as a 64-megapixel camera. On top of that, this smartphone is rumored to include a 5,000mAh battery as well. We’ll know far more on March 23.
