Mobile gaming is continuing to grow on a daily basis with new games entering the mix, and cloud gaming starting to get some wind under its wings. While many mobile games are capable of being run on most smartphones, there’s no fun in that when it comes to finding the right hardware. That has made it possible for gaming-centric smartphones to enter the market, and we’ve seen quite a few offerings in recent years, including the ASUS ROG Phone.
The ROG Phone arrived on the scene back in 2018, with its unique AeroActive cooling system, along with its gorgeous 6-inch AMOLED display. Fast forward to today, and we’ve seen two iterations of the ROG Phone made available since the original, with the ROG Phone 5 coming soon.
Last week, ASUS confirmed that the next ROG Phone would be skipping the number “4” in its naming scheme, opting instead to go with the ROG Phone 5. The company also published a countdown landing page, ahead of the official unveiling of the ROG Phone 5.
We’ve seen a few rumors and leaks here and there, but DxOMark has provided everyone with the latest. The company performed and published its audio review, sharing details about the upcoming ROG Phone 5 ahead of its launch. In the review, DxOMark revealed the following specs:
In its review, DxOMark confirms that the device will indeed launch on March 10th, but that they “already got our hands on a production unit”. Nevertheless, the spec sheet that DxOMark shared should really come as no surprise. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the ROG Phone 5 is the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack with a built-in ESS DAC.
There are not many devices on the market that feature a built-in DAC, and for ASUS to bring one to the ROG Phone 5 would only help increase potential sales. We’re just a couple of weeks away from the launch of the next ROG Phone, at which point we’ll learn even more about this gaming powerhouse. Let us know whether you’ll be considering the ROG Phone 5 as your next smartphone of choice, or if you’ll be continuing to use something else for your mobile gaming needs.
