Epic dreams of a world where first-party PlayStation games for PC are available exclusively through its Epic Games Store. This is a dream that Epic apparently wants to such an extent that it offered Sony hundreds of millions to secure the rights to availability.

Though smash PlayStation hits like Horizon Zero Dawn were brought to PC, that title in particular isn’t exclusive to Epic. It was also available through Steam, Epic’s main rival. The same will be true for Days Gone when it launches for PC on May 17.

Epic’s push for game titles to help it compete with Steam were revealed in court documents from the company’s ongoing legal battle with Apple. According to The Verge, Epic attempted deals with more than just Sony. Reaching out to companies like Microsoft, while it had plans to contact Nintendo. Which Epic referred to as a “moonshot” due to Nintendo’s corporate history.

Epic offered Sony $200 million for access to its PlayStation PC game titles

Though Epic’s offers obviously didn’t pan out, at one point it had offered Sony $200 million for access to the PS titles coming to PC. This was also an extended offer. So Epic likely made an initial offer for less and then raised it after Sony declined.

The proposed deal was for around four to six titles. No games were mentioned by name, so it’s not clear if Epic was aiming for specific titles. The document also notes that Epic was awaiting feedback from Sony on its newly revised offer.

Aside from Sony, Epic was apparently “opening conversations” with Microsoft on bringing some of its first-party games to Epic. It also details that Valve was essentially “bidding against” Epic for content, and that Phil Spencer was meeting with Valve CEO Gabe Newell occasionally.

Epic suggests that talks were about Valve bringing Xbox Game Pass to Steam. Which would widen the reach of Game Pass for Microsoft and potentially provide a vast new revenue stream for Valve while also securing more active users.

Epic propositions Riot, Activision-Blizzard and more

The documents also reveal that Epic was reaching out to other big-name publishers. Including Riot Games, Activision-Blizzard, and EA.

Epic reportedly considered League Of Legends a high value prospect. Though it also sees the deal as a long shot. Another deal sought to bring Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 to the Epic Games Store in hopes that it would also lead to additional Activision-Blizzard titles on its platform.
