Samsung’s Galaxy A22 5G could be finally nearing its market introduction. After months of speculations and rumors, we now have our first look at the upcoming budget 5G smartphone. Well-known tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, aka OnLeaks, has shared several high-resolution unofficial renders of the phone. There’s a video as well, showing the phone in all its glory.

The Galaxy A22 5G (there’s a 4G variant too) doesn’t look too different from the Galaxy A32 5G, as far as the front look is concerned. It reportedly sports the same 6.5-inch display with a similar-sized waterdrop notch which even houses the same 13-megapixel selfie camera.

However, as soon as we move to the back, things look different. The Galaxy A32 5G has a gorgeous back for a mid-ranger, with each camera module getting a separate cutout. The Galaxy A22 5G, on the other hand, has all the sensors bunched up inside a squircle camera bump. The renders show a triple camera setup but some earlier reports had suggested four rear cameras. We will need to wait for confirmation on that.

Moving on, the bottom of the phone has cutouts for a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, a microphone, and a speaker grille. The power button and the volume control buttons sit on the right. Samsung has also embedded a fingerprint sensor into the power button. There’s also a secondary microphone at the top. Pretty standard stuff here. The Galaxy A22 5G reportedly measures 167.2 x 76.4 x 8.7mm in dimension without the camera bump.

Galaxy A22 5G appears in high-res renders ahead of launch

The Galaxy A22 5G has been doing rounds on the internet since as early as December last year. While the phone continues to elude the market even now, it may not be long before it finally breaks cover officially. The device is said to arrive in July this year as the cheapest 5G smartphone from Samsung to date. That title is currently held by the Galaxy A32 5G, which debuted at $279.99 for the 4GB+64GB variant.

This suggests that the Galaxy A22 5G may retail for around $200. Samsung has reportedly opted for the joint development and production (JDM) method for this phone to reduce the manufacturing cost. This essentially means the company will decide the design and specs but a third-party manufacturer will develop and manufacture the product. China-based Wing Tech and Hwachin are those third-party manufacturers for the Galaxy A22 5G. It now remains to be seen how Samsung prices this phone.
