Samsung‘s April 2021 Android security patch rollout is in full swing. The company began the rollout late last month and picked up the pace over the past week or so. It has so far seeded the latest Android security maintenance release (SMR) to a bunch of Galaxy smartphones and tablets. N6ow, the rollout has reached the Galaxy S8 series as well as the Galaxy A52 5G.

The Galaxy S8 duo are currently receiving this month’s Android SMR in Samsung’s home country South Korea. Only carrier versions of the phones are picking up the new update as of this writing but unlocked models shouldn’t be too far off either.

The April update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in South Korea bears the firmware version G950NKSU5DUD1 and G955NKSU5DUD1 respectively. Expect this rollout to expand to other regions in the coming days.

The Galaxy A52 5G, on the other hand, is picking up the April security patch in the Latin American region, Brazil, Colombia, and Chile, to be specific. The update comes with the firmware version A526BXXS1AUD1. Once again, it’s only a matter of time before Samsung expands this rollout to other territories.

Note that the 4G variant of the newly launched Galaxy A52 has already picked up the latest Android security patch. In fact, it was one of the first Galaxy smartphones to receive the new update, much before Google could detail the contents of the patch.

Talking about the contents of this month’s Android SMR, it includes fixes for as many as 21 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. It also fixes six critical and more than four dozen high-risk vulnerabilities found on Android OS.

Galaxy S8 and Galaxy A52 5G are now receiving the April security patch

The Galaxy S8 series arrived in early 2017 running Android 7.0 Nougat. The phones have already completed four years in the market, meaning they have lived through Samsung’s promised software support period. Right now, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are on a quarterly security update schedule. However, Samsung could soon degrade them to the biannual schedule or even stop offering updates at all.

The Galaxy A52 5G, on the other hand, arrived only last month. Unlike its predecessor, Samsung has promised monthly security updates for this highly-rated mid-ranger. Moreover, this device should also receive three major Android OS updates, i.e. until Android 14.

Nonetheless, if you own any of the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, or the Galaxy A52 5G, be on the lookout for a new update in the coming days and weeks.
