If you’re looking for a simple, minimalistic RSS / news reader, well, Plenary may be the app for you. This is a relatively new application, and it brings more competition to the table.
There are tons of compelling RSS / News readers on the market, but if none of those are simplistic enough for you, this one may suit you. Plenary is free to use, and it doesn’t even require you to log in.
The developer is also quite clear that the app doesn’t come with ads, and is free of trackers. He says that everything the app does is done on your device, that includes storing downloaded data.
You can use this app like you would any other RSS reader. Simply add your sources, or load them from a file / cloud storage, and you’re good to go. You’ll have all the necessary features to read news feeds.
The app also offers full offline support. Once they’re synced, you can read everything offline. Plenary can also automatically fetch data for you in the background, and have everything ready to go when you open the app.
There are multiple themes for you to choose from here, and all the base features are also included. You can organize your feeds in different categories, mark your favorite articles, mark them read / unread, and much more.
Plenary can notify you when new entries arrive in your subscription feeds, if you want. The app also has a ton of recommendations when it comes to news, so you don’t even have to look for anything on your own.
TTS (Text To Speech) functionality is included. The app does serve as a podcast player as well. It can stream and download your favorite podcasts, if that’s what you’re into.
Now, there is also a premium subscription here. If you get it, you’ll get access to pure black theme, automatic backup of data to Google Drive and Dropbox, ability to open links directly in external apps, and more. If you’re interested in Plenary, the download link is included below.
