In an official blog post, Google has announced some new editing tools via which a user can contribute to making Google Maps more informative and accurate.
Apparently, users can now add real-time live images and add missing roads to the Google Maps, every time they come across a lane or road that simply does not exist in the Maps app.
Google is introducing a road-editing tool for desktop that users can make use of to report road changes or add new roads or missing roads to the Google Maps.
According to the official blog, Google account contribute their local knowledge to over 200 million places in Google Maps. And with the newly introduced features, it will help people with more places.

Notably, the new road editing tool is an improvement over the already existing method of reporting road changes. Currently, users can only drop a pin if they want to report a missing road, then type in the road's name and submit the information to Google.
The new road-editing tool is a part of three new features that would allow sharing new information and finding local recommendations more easily. Missing roads can be added using the "Edit" tool on the side menu.
Allowing anyone to edit Maps can be a risky task, as anyone can add wrong information. So, will thoroughly check the added information before publishing them.
One of the three features that Google Maps introduced in the US is a nationwide "Local Love Challenge." This would encourage users to post helpful reviews, photos, and updates for businesses.
This will enable reporting of closed businesses or updated open/close times of businesses. Last but not the least, Google Maps is also rolling out a new content type in the coming weeks.
This feature will allow users to share recent photos or videos of a business without the need of posting a full review. You can head over to the "Updates" tab to upload images and also see photos that the owners and other people have shared.
Google plans to make these new features available in more than 80 countries in the coming months. For more information on this, you can head over to the official Google blog.
