Last year, Google introduced the much-awaited Apple's AirDrop rival, called the Nearby Share. Notably, as per XDA’s Mishaal Rahman, Google may soon add two new useful features to Nearby Share to improve its functionality, both of which are in testing as we speak.

Nearby Share allows the user to share any file both online and offline with other Android devices. Do note that the recipient Android device needs to be in close proximity to receive the files.

Not only Android devices, but users can also make use of the Nearby Share to send files to Chromebooks as well. However, the Nearby Share app isn't quite as feature-rich as what Apple AirDrop offers.

Thankfully, this is going to change because Google is adding group transfer support to the Nearby Share application. In simple words, this would allow sending files to multiple recipients in one go.

As per XDA, this hidden feature would allow users to choose up to four devices at once and send files to them. This is quite nifty, as it would save time and effort versus sending each file individually to each different individual.

Google is also working on a Nearby Share feature that allows sending the entire folder

While the Nearby Share group transfer is a very handy feature, it is still not working as expected right now. Currently, group transfer works only with a single device and fails when more than one device is connected.

Another feature that Google is adding to Nearby Share is the ability to share the entire folder with the connected devices. This is a great feature, as it also helps you save time and effort in selecting multiple files.

Both the features are expected to arrive on the Nearby Share in the coming days with a Play Store update. Moreover, it is also expected to be backward compatible, i.e. it will work with older versions as well.

It is nice to see Google making efforts to make the Nearby Share feature more feature-rich. Because on one hand, the Nearby Share was introduced as a rival to Apple AirDrop.

But on the other hand, it is still barebones and does not include several features that Apple AirDrop currently has. So, Google has to do a lot of catchup in order to make the Nearby Share a worthy rival to AirDrop.

Besides, Nearby Share isn't enabled by default on all Android devices just like AirDrop. In order to use the feature, you need to head over to Settings->Bluetooth & Device connection to enable it.
