As per the latest report by XDA, Google is adding a new remote control feature on Google TV. This feature would allow the users to control their Android TV using the Google TV app.
Notably, the Google TV app was previously known as Play Movies & TV. XDA Editor-in-Chief Mishaal Rahman spotted this new feature with the latest version of Google TV.
However, note that this new feature is not live for everyone. As per the screenshots, the user interface of the Google TV remote is quite minimal and there is no clutter.
There is a simple D-pad with a circular button at the center, which presumably is the Enter button. Around this circular button, there are arrow buttons on the four sides. These buttons will help you navigate through the Android TV UI on your connected smart TV.
The remote control does not offer any other buttons. There is no clarity whether or not Google will add a few more buttons, once the Google TV remote control goes live for everyone.
In order to connect the Google TV remote control, you need to first pair up your smart TV with the mobile app. A list of available and supported TVs will be shown once you start the connection process.
Further, to connect your TV, you need to enter the 4-digit PIN code shown in your smart TV in the app. Once the connection is established, you can easily control your smart TV with your Google TV remote control feature.
As for the list of supported devices, it is too early to say anything at the moment. Good thing is that folks at XDA tested out this feature and found out that it is not working with NVIDIA’s SHIELD TVs.
Moreover, the Google TV app will likely replace the Android TV Remote Control app available on the Play Store. Well, no one should miss that app as it hasn't been updated in years.
So, it is also possible that the Google TV remote control feature will receive functionalities like voice input support, a touchpad, and keyboard support before it begins rolling out for the masses.
But currently, there is no information that supports this claim. Google is yet to share any information on this new feature coming to the Google TV app. Stay tuned to Android Headlines to keep yourself updated regarding this feature.
