The OnePlus 9 series got announced yesterday, and Zack from JerryRigEverything already tested the durability of the OnePlus 9 Pro. As per usual, he shared the tests on his YouTube channel.
The video has been embedded below the article, and it has a duration of around 7 minutes. Spoiler alert, the OnePlus 9 Pro did really well in these tests. That’s something we’re used to seeing when it comes to OnePlus’ flagships.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the OnePlus 9 Pro does come with a screen protector pre-installed. You can remove it, if you want, as Zack did in the video, so that he can test the scratch resistance of the display.
The OnePlus 9 Pro starts scratching at a level 6, with deeper grooves at a level 7. That is perfectly normal for a phone protected by Gorilla Glass, and exactly what we expected. The front-facing camera is protected by that glass as well.
The frame is made out of metal, as are the phone’s physical buttons, and an alert slider. The back of the phone is also protected by Gorilla Glass, and should be fairly scratch resistant.
The cameras are well-protected as well. What’s interesting is that the in-display fingerprint scanner worked for Zack even when he scratched the glass on top of it. That’s, of course, a good thing.
The OnePlus 9 Pro’s display managed to last for 40 seconds under the heat from a lighter, until the pixels started shutting down. It seems like it recovered afterwards.
The last test that you’ll see in the provided video is the bend test. The phone does bend a little bit when pressure is applied from either side, but it does not break, crack, or anything of the sort. It also reverts back to the original position after you stop applying the pressure.
