OnePlus introduced two new flagship smartphones today, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. We’ve already talked about both of them in our announcement, and it’s not time to take a closer look at the OnePlus 9 Pro specifications.
The OnePlus 9 Pro was the main focus of the OnePlus launch event, and is the most powerful smartphone the company ever announced. Its specifications are high-end, needless to say. If you’re interested in them, read on.
The OnePlus 9 Pro features a 6.7-inch QHD+ (3216 x 1440) AMOLED display. This is an LTPO display, and it offers “Smart 120Hz” refresh rate. That is OnePlus’ way of saying it has an adaptive refresh rate option.
The display can display 1.07 billion colors, as it has a native 10-bit color depth. It does support HDR10+ content, while it also gets quite bright at 1,300 nits max brightness (8,000 levels of brightness). Yes, MEMC is also included. What’s also worth noting is that this display is curved, but less curved than the one on the OnePlus 8 Pro.
The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, Qualcomm’s most powerful processor. The phone comes in two RAM and storage setups. You can choose to get an 8GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage, or a 12GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage. Speaking of which, OnePlus is using LPDDR5 RAM here, along with UFS 3.1 storage.
A 4,500mAh battery is included in the device, and it does support fast charging. It supports Warp Charge 65T fast wired charging, which is essentially 65W fast charging. On top of that, it offers 50W fast wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Those of you who are wondering, yes, the charger (65W one) is included in the box.
There are four cameras included on the back of this phone, and one on the front. The OnePlus 9 Pro is using Sony’s custom IMX789 sensor for its main camera, so it has a 48-megapixel main unit. We’re looking at an f/1.8 aperture lens here, and OIS is supported. That sensor comes coupled with a 7P lens, EIS support. 1.12um pixel size comes with 48-megapixel images, while 12-megapixel images offer 2.24um pixel size (4-in-1 binning).
Sony’s IMX766 50-megapixel camera is used for an ultra-wide unit on the phone. This camera comes with an f/2.2 aperture freeform 7P lens, it corrects the way light comes into the lens without software. It’s distortion-less, says OnePlus.
An 8-megapixel telephoto camera (f/2.4 aperture, 1.0um pixel size) is also a part of the package, as is a 2-megapixel monochrome camera. A 16-megapixel camera (Sony’s IMX471 sensor, 1.0um pixel size, EIS, fixed focus, f/2.4 aperture) sits on the front side of the phone.
Hasselblad worked with OnePlus on color correction for cameras on this device. OnePlus is marked that via the “Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad” branding. OnePlus also improved video performance, from the HDR perspective mainly.
The device includes an in-display fingerprint scanner, it does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, while face scanning is supported via the phone’s selfie camera. The phone has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
The OnePlus 9 Pro measures 163.2 x 73.6 x 8.7mm, while it weighs 197 grams. That goes for all variants of the device, there’s no difference from one region to the next, it seems. The phone is available in Morning Mist, Forest Green, and Stellar Black color options.
