The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro got announced today. We’ve already talked about both phones, and even detailed the OnePlus 9 Pro specifications. Well, we’re back to take a closer look at the OnePlus 9 specs.
The OnePlus 9 is not as powerful as the OnePlus 9 Pro, but it’s not far from it either. This smartphone comes with the same processor as the ‘Pro’ model, the Snapdragon 888. That is the most powerful processor Qualcomm has to offer.
The OnePlus 9 features a 6.55-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) display, and the device is smaller than the ‘Pro’ model. That display is also a 120Hz panel, but it’s not an LTPO one. In other words, it doesn’t offer an adaptive refresh rate. This is the same display that was included in the OnePlus 8T.
The display is flat, unlike the panel on the OnePlus 9 Pro. This display also gets quite bright, at 1,100 nits peak brightness. It does support HDR10+ content, in case you were wondering.
A 4,500mAh battery is included in the OnePlus 9. You can recharge that battery using a 65W fast wired charging, and the charger is included in the box. The phone does support wireless charging as well, 15W wireless charging.
It has a fiberglass-infused polymer frame with a glass back, and it is not officially water resistant. Despite that, this phone can be caught in the rain, and it should be just fine, just keep in mind it’s not officially IP rated.
It comes in two setups, similar to its big brother. You can either get an 8GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage, or a 12GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage. You cannot expand its storage, though, so keep that in mind.
This handset has three cameras on the back, and one on the front. A 48-megapixel main camera is included, but not the same one as one the OnePlus 9 Pro. This handset comes with Sony’s IMX689 camera sensor from the OnePlus 8 Pro. That sensor includes 1.12um pixel size pixels for 48-megapixel images, and 2.24um pixel size for 12-megapixel images (4-in-1 binning). A 7P lens is included, and EIS is supported. This camera offers an f/1.8 aperture.
Its secondary camera is a 50-megapixel ultra-wide one, and that one is identical to the 9 Pro model. We’re looking at Sony’s IMX766 sensor here, for those of you who are wondering That camera also has a 7P lens, while it offers an f/2.2 aperture, and 14mm focal length. The third sensor is a monochrome one, a 2-megapixel sensor.
The phone features an in-display fingerprint scanner, and supports facial scanning via its front-facing camera. Speaking of which, a 16-megapixel front-facing camera (Sony IMX471 sensor, 1.0um pixel size, f/2.4 aperture, fixed focus, EIS) is included.
The phone measures 160 x 74.2 x 8.7mm in North America in Europe. In India and China it measures 160 x 73.9 x 8.1mm. It weighs 192 grams in North America and Europe, while its lighter in India and China at 183 grams.
The phone is coming in Winter Mist, Arctic Sky, and Astral Black color options, with Bluetooth 5.2 included.
