OnePlus has started rolling out Android 11 to its OnePlus Nord smartphone. We’re talking about a stable update here, by the way, not a beta build or anything of the sort, we’re past that point.

The update has started rolling out, though it may not become available for your device immediately. As it’s usually the case, this is a staged rollout, so it may take a couple of days to roll out to everyone.

Before you upgrade, do note that you’ll need at least 3 GB of available storage space, as this upgrade weighs a little bit over 2.9 GB. Also, make sure your battery is charged to at least 30-percent before you proceed.

Android 11 is hitting OnePlus Nord devices as we speak, along with OxygenOS 11

Having said that, this update will essentially bring the OnePlus Nord to the level of the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, and 8T in terms of software. You’ll get OxygenOS 11 which comes pre-installed on top of Android 11.

That means that you’ll get some new features, along with UI changes. Most of those are related to Android 11 itself, but OnePlus also added some of them, of course. We’ll talk about some changes OnePlus made.

OnePlus did tweak the Ambient Display feature with this update. It added an Insight clock style, which will change according to the phone usage data. The Canvas always-on display has also been added, a feature we’ve seen on other OnePlus phones with Android 11.

This feature can extract the subject’s outline from any photo (based on your wallpaper), and display it on your lock screen. You can access the feature in Settings -> Customization -> Wallpaper -> Canvas.

The shortcut key for Dark Mode has been added. A brand new shelf UI is also here, while a new weather widget with a smarter animation effect has also been added.

The company’s gallery app has also seen some changes

The OnePlus Gallery has also seen some changes. The ‘Story’ feature is now here, and it can create the weekly stories by using your local photos and videos. Various under-the-hood changes have also been issued.

In addition to all these changes that OnePlus made, a ton of them were provided by Android 11 itself. In Android 11, for example, notifications from your chat apps are separated in the notification shade. Various other customization has been added, and all the main features that you’ve seen Android 11 ushered in last year.
