In this article, we’ll compare the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra vs Vivo X60 Pro+, the two powerhouse smartphones from China. These two phones are the best Xiaomi and Vivo have to offer at the moment. As a reminder, Xiaomi and Vivo are currently the third and fifth largest smartphone OEMs in the world. That information comes from Strategy Analytics’ latest report for Q1 2021, in case you were wondering.

That being said, both the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and Vivo X60 Pro+ have a lot to offer. These two phones do have some similarities between them, but for the most part, they’re quite different. The two companies did take different approaches when it comes to designing the two devices, and also in terms of their software. In this article, we’ll talk about a lot of aspects of the two phones, including the design, display, performance, battery, cameras, and audio side of things. Having said that, let’s kick off the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra vs Vivo X60 Pro+ comparison, shall we.

Specs

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra vs Vivo X60 Pro+: Design

When it comes to the design, let’s first say that both devices are quite large. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is larger than the Vivo X60 Pro+, though, but still, both are meant to be used with two hands. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is taller, wider, and thinner than the Vivo X60 Pro+. On top of that, it’s a lot heavier. Weighs 234 grams, while the Vivo X60 Pro+ weighs 191 grams. That’s a weight difference you’ll definitely feel in the hand. Using the Vivo X60 Pro+ with one hand becomes a problem after a while, so you can imagine what’s the situation with the Mi 11 Ultra. That’s quite usual for today’s flagships, though, they’re not exactly light, mainly due to their size.

Speaking of which, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra comes with a ceramic backplate, which helps with durability, but adds extra bulk. The Vivo X60 Pro+ sports a Vegan Leather backplate, so it’s considerably less slippery than the Mi 11 Ultra. Both phones feature frames made out of metal, in case you were wondering. Both of them also sport curved displays, and display camera holes. Those display camera hotels are placed in different spots on the display. The Mi 11 Ultra’s sits in the top-left corner, while the Vivo X60 Pro+’s is centered.

Both devices have extremely thin bezels, and large camera setups on the back. The Mi 11 Ultra’s camera setup is much larger, though, mainly due to the fact it has a display included in the camera island. A very small display, but still. We’ll talk more about the cameras later on. Neither of these two phones is meant to be used with one hand, but it’s much easier to do that with the Vivo X60 Pro+. Not only is it smaller, and lighter, but it’s also less slippery. Both phones offer quality build, and that’s something you’ll notice the moment you start using them.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra vs Vivo X60 Pro+: Display

Both of these phones have large (main) displays, though the Mi 11 Ultra’s is a bit larger. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra features a gigantic 6.81-inch WQHD+ (3200 x 1440) AMOLED display. This is an LTPO display, it is adaptive, and it offers a 120Hz refresh rate. It can produce 1B colors, and it supports HDR10+ content. The display is curved, and it also supports Dolby Vision content. On top of everything, it gets extremely bright, at 1,700 nits peak brightness, and it is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus.

The Vivo X60 Pro+’s panel measures 6.56 inches, and it’s a fullHD+ (2376 x 1080) Super AMOLED display. This is also a 120Hz display, but it’s not adaptive, it’s an LTPS panel. It’s curved, and it can project HDR10+ content, while it gets quite bright as well, up to 1,300 nits peak brightness. Both displays have a really high screen-to-body ratio, and both panels are quite compelling. More on that soon.

Before we start talking about the display quality, let’s just mention that the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has a secondary display on the back. It sports a 1.1-inch AMOLED selfie display as part of its rear-facing camera island. This display is tiny, but it’s large enough for you to see what you’re trying to take a picture of. It’s a huge help when it comes to framing your images properly, that’s for sure.

Both of these displays look quite nice, but in comparison, the Mi 11 Ultra’s panel wins. It does look better on paper, but that transfers to real-life use as well. It is more vivid, and the colors seem to be more punchy. The Vivo X60 Pro+’s panel looks slightly blue-ish in comparison, but that’s not something you’ll notice unless you’re holding them side-by-side. Both displays are more than sharp enough, though, while the viewing angles are excellent on both. You cannot go wrong with either, but if you do need an excellent WQHD+ panel, and that’s quite important to you, the Mi 11 Ultra’s is amongst the best out there.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra vs Vivo X60 Pro+: Performance

As it’s the case with all flagship smartphones, users expect the very best performance. Is that the case here? Well, yes, it certainly is. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and Vivo X60 Pro+ definitely do not disappoint in that regard. Both of these smartphones come with top-of-the-line hardware, and that transfers to real-life use. The Snapdragon 888 fuels both phones, while both companies included LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage on the inside.

When it comes to regular, everyday usage, both phones simply fly across the UI. They can open and close apps extremely fast, launching cameras and shooting images and videos is also a breeze. Watching multimedia content is a joy, while gaming is also something that both phones excel at. These two devices can run pretty much every game in the Play Store, and do an excellent job doing so.

They do have considerably different software offerings, even though both are based on Android 11. Both MIUI and Funtouch UI are really well-optimized, and are a lot better than they were a couple of years ago. They’re filled with various features that you may be interested in, and those features do not overwhelm either device. We never felt like the UI is bloated to the degree that affects the performance or anything of the sort. Both phones do an excellent job in the performance department.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra vs Vivo X60 Pro+: Battery

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra packs in a 5,000mAh battery, while a 4,200mAh unit is included inside the Vivo X60 Pro+. What is the battery life like, though? Well, it’s good, but not great. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra can usually push its way to 6 hours of screen-on-time, presuming you’re not gaming a lot, or at all. The Vivo X60 Pro+, on the other hand, sits between 5.5 and 6 hours, once again, if you’re not gaming, or doing any processor-intensive tasks.

If you are a gamer, you can expect those numbers to be different. Do note that your mileage may vary, as each of us uses our phones differently. These two phones generally offer good battery life, but they’re not amongst the best we’ve seen out there, that’s for sure. Things may change via updates, though, as both phones do have the hardware that should enable them even better results, so it comes down to further software optimization.

Now, if you do run out of juice, you can quickly recharge both phones. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra offers 67W fast wired and wireless charging, along with 10W reverse wireless charging. The Vivo X60 Pro+ offers 55W fast wired charging. So, the Mi 11 Ultra is faster in the charging department, and it offers more options as well. Both can recharge extremely fast, though, as the difference between 67W and 55W wired charging is not that big.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra vs Vivo X60 Pro+: Cameras

The camera situation is quite interesting here. Both of these phones may surprise you, as both offer quite compelling camera performance. The hardware Xiaomi and Vivo used here is quite good, and it seems like both companies did a really good job on the software side of things as well. Both devices include a periscope camera as well, and as long as there’s enough light in the scene, those periscope cameras work really well in both cases. Both phones even offer 5x optical zoom.

Now, both devices are using a 50-megapixel main camera, though in quite different setups. The point is, those cameras are excellent in both cases. In good lighting, the images turn out sharp, with plenty of detail, and good colors. Even dynamic range is spot on with both phones. Ultra-wide shooters are good on both phones, though the one on the Mi 11 Ultra offers a wider field of view.

What about low light? Well, neither phone falls apart in such situations, quite the contrary. Both do a great job in such conditions. They allow plenty of light into the scene, especially in night modes. They also do a great job when it comes to balancing such shots. Images captured in night modes do look a bit unrealistic, but great. The Vivo X60 Pro+ especially does a great job in low light, images do look excellent, with plenty of detail even. We were pleasantly surprised by both phones, to be quite honest. Both of these can compete with the best out there, without a problem. The Vivo X60 Pro+ does stand out though, it’s incredibly consistent.

Audio

For some reason, Vivo decided to include only one speaker inside the Vivo X60 Pro+. That speaker is quite good (it’s bottom-firing), but it cannot compete with what the Mi 11 Ultra offers. The Mi 11 Ultra packs two speakers, one is bottom-firing, the other is front-firing. The sound provided by those speakers is louder and fuller. The vast majority of people will be happy enough with what the Vivo X60 Pro+ has to offer, though, as its speaker is really good, even though it’s a mono speaker.

Neither of the two phones offers a 3.5mm headphone jack. You’ll either need to use a dongle, a Type-C pair of headphones, or a Bluetooth connection. There are options. Once you do hook up a good pair of headphones, you’ll be able to enjoy a rather good sound in both cases. The sound is well-balanced, just don’t expect a lot of bass to be included in the mix. That’s not exactly out of the norm for smartphones these days.
