Samsung has been tipped to utilize an under-display camera in the second half of this year, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 may be the device to do it. This information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known tipster. Samsung is actually not the only company he mentioned.
The tipster said that Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, and ZTE will all utilize an under-display camera in H2 2021. Those may not be the only companies, but the tipster seems to be confident they will do it for sure.
He even mentioned some models that will feature such sensors. According to him, Samsung will use an under-display camera in one of its foldable smartphones. That’s quite interesting, actually, as the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is not expected to feature it. Is Samsung preparing a surprise? Well, it’s possible.
Samsung is tipped to release only two foldable smartphones this year, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 (or Flip 2, depending on what name it goes with). So, there’s a high chance the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will include such a sensor, if Ice Universe is to be believed.
There’s a possibility the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will use it as well, or instead of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, we’ll have to wait and see. This is quite an interesting development, though.
Based on the provided information, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will also ship with such a sensor. Yes, the Mi MIX 4 is still in Xiaomi’s plans, even though the Mi MIX Fold got announced quite recently. The Mi MIX 4 will probably feature a more regular design, it won’t be a foldable phone.
OPPO’s foldable smartphone is also tipped to use an under-display camera. OPPO is expected to announce its first foldable device this year, and it will use some interesting tech, it seems.
The last company Ice Universe mentioned is ZTE. ZTE actually announced a phone with an under-display camera already, the ZTE Axon 20 5G. That device arrived last year, and was actually the first phone to offer such a sensor.
That camera did not work great on the phone, though, the pictures weren’t exactly impressive. ZTE is planning to change that with the next-gen device, though, according to the tipster.
