Samsung could be working on three new Exynos processors for 2021. According to noted leakster IceUniverse (@UniverseIce), the Korean firm is developing the Exynos 8xx, Exynos 12xx, and Exynos 22xx for launch this year. The model numbers of the upcoming Exynos processors are not completely clear but they are seemingly targeted at three different price points.

The Exynos 8xx could be the same mid-range processor that we reported earlier today. It bears the model number S5E5515 and may arrive in late 2021 with 5G support. This chipset should be the successor to last year's Exynos 850.

The Exynos 12xx, on the other hand, could succeed the Exynos 1080 that was launched towards the end of last year. It is most likely a premium mid-range chipset targeted at high-end affordable smartphones. This chipset also may not make its debut anytime soon.

Lastly, the Exynos 22xx could be the next flagship mobile processor from Samsung. The company launched the Exynos 2100 in January this year. It debuted inside the Galaxy S21 series. Since Samsung is said to have discontinued the Galaxy Note series and it usually debuts its latest flagship processor inside a Galaxy S series phone, the Exynos 22xx may not arrive until early next year.

There's also a possibility that the Exynos 22xx is being developed for laptops. Samsung has teamed up with AMD to use the latter's Radeon graphics in its Exynos chipsets. According to reports, the first Exynos SoC with an AMD GPU may debut in an ARM-based laptop. However, Samsung's ultimate plan is to use ARM GPUs in its mobile processors. So it's still anyone's guess.

Samsung has three new Exynos processors in the pipeline for 2021

Since the launch of the Exynos 980, which powers the Galaxy A51 5G and Galaxy A71 5G, in late 2019, Samsung hasn't quite taken a step wrong with its Exynos processors. It launched the Exynos 850, Exynos 1080, and Exynos 2100 since then and all of them have offered performances on par with rival solutions, or at least at a level not too inferior to competitive products.

That's a strong comeback from a company that looked in all sorts of trouble a couple of years back. Its Exynos chipsets faced criticism left, right, and center for overheating and underwhelming performance. However, the company made some bold decisions last year, ditching custom Mongoose CPU cores in favor of stock ARM cores. And this move has visibly paid off.

That said, Samsung's flagship mobile processors are still not as good as Qualcomm's Snapdragon counterparts. So there's still work to do. It would now be interesting to see how this year's offerings fare against the competition.
