Sony announced two new flagship smartphones today, the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III. We’ve already talked about them in our initial announcement, and we’ve also covered the Xperia 1 III specs separately. Well, it’s time to talk about the Sony Xperia 5 III specifications.
Before we do, though, it’s worth noting that this is also a flagship, but a smaller one. The device is made out of metal and glass, and it does resemble the Xperia 1 III, a lot. It also packs most of what the Xperia 1 III offers.
The Sony Xperia 5 III features a 6.1-inch fullHD+ (2580 x 1080) OLED HDR display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. That is a 120Hz display, by the way, and it’s protected by the Gorilla Glass 6.
The Snapdragon 888 fuels the phone, while Sony also included 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage here. You can also expand that storage via a microSD card up to 1TB. Speaking of which, that microSD card slot comes separate from two SIM card slots that are offered.
The phone includes three cameras on the back. A 12-megapixel main camera (Exmor RS sensor, f/1.7 aperture, hybrid OIS/EIS) is partnered by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera (f/2.2 aperture, 124-degree FoV), and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera (variable aperture, f/2.3-f/2.8, 12.5x hybrid zoom). ZEISS T coating is also included in the package.
A single 8-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, 84-degree FoV, Exmor RS sensor) sits on the front side of this smartphone. A fingerprint scanner is also a part of the package, and it’s placed on the right side of the device.
This smartphone does include a 3.5mm headphone jack, and supports 360 Reality Audio. Sony also decided to include full-stage stereo speakers here, and the phone does offer Dolby Atmos support.
Android 11 comes pre-installed here, in case you were wondering. The company also included Bluetooth 5.2 support, while the phone does support 5G. A Type-C USB 3.1 port is placed at the bottom.
You’ll find a 4,500mAh battery on the inside of this smartphone. That battery supports 30W fast wired charging (USB PD). Wireless charging doesn’t seem to be supported here, at least it wasn’t mentioned by the company.
The Xperia 5 III measures 157 x 68 x 8.2mm, while it weighs 168 grams. The phone is both water (IPX5/IPX8) and dust (IP6X) resistant, which was to be expected.
The Sony Xperia 5 III will become available this Summer, in Black, Green, and Pink color variants.
