Over the past few years, ZTE-owned Nubia has been releasing some pretty compelling and impressive gaming phones with the RedMagic 5G and the RedMagic 5S. The company is back again, this time with the RedMagic 6 and 6 Pro which were originally announced in China earlier this month. Now, these devices are getting a global launch with pre-orders slated to start on April 9th.
As for what you’ll get from the RedMagic 6, it’s a pretty damn impressive spec-sheet that puts a lot of other 2021 flagship models to shame. Not only are you getting a massive 6.8-inch AMOLED display, but the RedMagic 6 and 6 Pro are the first phones to feature a refresh rate of 165Hz. This is an obvious step-up from the 120Hz refresh rate displays we’ve seen from the likes of Samsung and OnePlus, and should provide an even smoother gaming experience.
Power is key with the RedMagic 6, as the Snapdragon 888 is at the helm paired with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. There’s a triple camera array on the back headlined by a 64MP camera, and flanked by 8MP and 2MP sensors for some added versatility.
Battery life should be a dream, thanks to the built-in 5,050mAh cell. But the real fun with the battery comes via the charging capabilities. Both the RedMagic 6 and 6 Pro are capable of handling 30W Quick Charge, which will allow your new phone to go from 0-100% in just over an hour. Furthermore, RedMagic is offering a 66W quick charger, which includes Power Delivery, making it so that you can juice up the RedMagic 6 or 6 Pro even faster.
There aren’t too many differences between the RedMagic and its Pro variant, with the Pro version getting a whopping 18GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. But the 6 Pro is also equipped with a heat dissipation back plate, in addition to the high-RPM fans found in both devices. Other than that, everything else with these devices are exactly the same, including the overall design.
If you’re intrigued by the RedMagic 6 or 6 Pro and want to immerse yourself with one of the most impressive phones of the year so far, then you don’t have too much longer to wait. The company will open pre-orders beginning on April 9th, with open sales to begin on April 15th. Nubia’s also running a promotion where if you pre-order either device, you’ll have the chance to get the RedMagic TWS earbuds for free.
As for pricing, this is perhaps the most exciting aspect of the RedMagic 6 series. The standard RedMagic 6 with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at $599 / EUR 599 / GBP 509. Meanwhile the beefier RedMagic 6 Pro with 18GB of RAM and 256GB of storage comes in at just $699 / EUR 699 / GBP 599. This is a good $200 cheaper than the Galaxy S21, which is underpowered in comparison, making the RedMagic 6 the cheapest Snapdragon 888 phone you can get.
