Twitter is working on a new feature for paid users that allows them to unsend tweets seconds after they’re being sent.
The rumors about Twitter’s plans for switching to a subscription model are on the top of the news for a while. It seems that Twitter is serious about it and wants to consider it as a new revenue stream. The idea is to keep the service free, but if users ask for more features, they must pay a subscription fee.
The features that paid users will get are unknown yet, but one might be the ability to unsend tweets. This comes on the heels of a tweet by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong that shared a screenshot that shows a “undo tweet” button at the Setting page. The release date and fees and yet to be announced.
The way this feature works is unknown yet, but Manchun Wong suggests that there will be an undo button and a timer. According to DailyMail, users will have around five seconds to decide about sending or unsending their tweets. Where does the failed tweet goes? No information has been released yet, and it is unclear whether the tweet will be deleted or left in the draft.
Of course, this is not the first time that Twitter plans to give users an option to revise their tweets. Last month, the company announced a new option that allows users to review replies that contain harmful and offensive language before sending them.
Twitter has taken a series of precautions to reduce the amount of harmful content on its platform in recent months. Moreover, Twitter surveillance of offensive or misleading tweets intensified after the US 2020 presidential election.
It’s evident that Twitter is striving to be a healthier platform. In this regard, it offers additional features to its users to have more control over the content of their tweets.
The target customers of this feature are mostly those who have typos, want to add more information to their tweets, or even inadvertently have ventilated some confidential information and want to get their words back.
Twitter’s switching to a subscription model will work as a double-edged sword for the company. At the times when users want to add some simple options such as the ability to edit sent tweets, adding some premium features might drive them mad.
On the other hand, the company must be accountable to its shareholders. Receiving subscription fees to provide more services can help them improve their financial situation.
