Stadia 2

You ever thought about playing Stadia games on your Xbox Series X? No? Well, it's possible to do so now thanks to a new Chromium-based Edge browser on the console.

Recently, Microsoft began testing the browser on its console in an Alpha phase. And users quickly found out that the Stadia website would work as intended. It might seem like an odd thing to test given that Stadia is supposed to be an alternative to consoles.

But it's also easy to forget that consoles have their own browsers. And because the upcoming version of the browser on Xbox will be based on the current version of Edge on Windows, which is based on Chromium, it would stand to reason that it would work as a Stadia vessel.

Stadia on Xbox is invitation-only

While this might not be a proper Stadia app on the Xbox consoles, it's still invitation only. And that's because access to the alpha testing version of the Chromium-based Edge browser on Xbox requires an invite to download it.

Which means you can't load up Stadia unless you have the invite. Looking ahead though, once the browser rolls out to everyone in full, launching games from the Stadia website should work.

And that's going to lead to some pretty exciting gaming experiences for Xbox owners who also have a membership to Google's cloud gaming platform. Essentially, this turns the Xbox into a one-stop shop for all the games you could ever want.

Xbox games directly on the console. Game Pass access. And now it seems, Stadia games too. There are a few things to keep in mind though. One, to use the browser on the Xbox you need to use the wireless controller. As it doesn't currently support keyboard and mouse.

And two, is that you still, according to the Stadia subreddit, actually need to use the Stadia controller to play games. So there will be a couple of workaround steps you need to implement before the Xbox console will recognize the Stadia controller. From there though, things should be good to go.

This works on Xbox One consoles too

Microsoft isn't just inviting people to try the new browser on the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It's also inviting users who have the Xbox One consoles. Because those will be getting the new version of the browser down the line.

This presents an interesting opportunity for those with the older generation of the Xbox One. A platform where Cyberpunk 2077 has had major issues. Users could now seemingly load up a Stadia version of the game on their Xbox One and play that way. All without problems the console versions has been having.
