Consumers have spent a lot of money on Android and iOS apps in Q1 2021. This information comes from App Annie, a company that shared its analysis in a new report.
Consumer spending on Android and iOS apps actually surged 40-percent during the first quarter of this year. They’ve spent a record total of $32 billion on apps, which crushes all the previous numbers.
The vast majority of that number went on iOS apps, though, $21 billion, to be exact. Android users spend $11 billion on apps in that same time period. Compared to Q1 2020, that’s a huge boost, as consumers spent $23 billion on apps back then.
COVID-19 is, of course, considered to be the main reason behind such growth. People are still stuck at home, or simply trying not to get out too much due to the pandemic. So, it makes sense.
The number of downloads between the two platforms rose 10-percent during the first quarter of 2021. To put that in numbers, we’ve seen 31 billion downloads in that time period.
Gamers have spent $9 billion in the Google Play Store during Q1 2021. That represents a rise of 35-percent YoY (Year-over-Year). iOS users, on the other hand, spent 30-percent more on an annual basis, in other words, they spent $13 billion in Q1 2021.
The biggest increase in revenue, when it comes to app categories, has been seen in Games, Social, and Entertainment categories, at least when it comes to Android. iOS users were most interested in Games, Photo & Video, and Entertainment categories.
Now, when it comes to the most popular apps. The most downloaded app during that time period, on both platforms, was TikTok. That doesn’t surprise anyone at this point, as TikTok has been incredibly popular for quite some time now.
TikTok is followed by Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and WhatsApp. You can check out the rest of the list in the image below this paragraph.
Consumers spent most on YouTube, and TikTok is second-placed on that list. Tinder follows, along with Disney+, and Tencent Video. The rest of the list is included below.
The first five apps, in regards to monthly active users, remain unchanged. The first four apps come from Facebook, which are great news for the company. Facebook is leading the pack, followed by WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram. Amazon is fifth-placed. The rest of the list is below.
Now, when it comes to games, Join Clash 3D was the most downloaded app, followed by Among Us! And DOP 2: Delete One Part. Consumers spent most on ROBLOX, Genshin Impact, and Coin Master. When it comes to monthly active users on games, Among Us! is leading the pack, followed by PUBG MOBILE, and Candy Crush Saga. You can check out the full lists below.
