Single people, brace yourselves. According to a new report by The Verge, Facebook is testing a new video dating app called Sparked. You simply need a Facebook profile to use the app which is developed by the company’s NPE Team.

The NPE Team is Facebook’s group that works on developing experimental apps. Sparked allows the user to go on a four-minute video date.

According to the official Sparked website, the app is described as “video dating with kind people.” Moreover, the app promises there you will not find regular dating app features like public profiles, swiping left or right, DMs, etc.

The app will be free to use, and it will cycle people through speed video dates. And as already mentioned, you have four minutes to woo the other person.

However, the website mentions nothing on how many video dates a person will go on per event. The app does say if “you both have a great time,” daters will get an extra 10 minutes for a second date.

The good thing about this platform is four-minute is plenty of time for someone to exchange phone numbers, Instagram IDs, Facebook profiles, etc. to get in touch later if time runs out.

When signing up, users are asked what makes them a kind dater

Since “kindness” is the main essence of this app, while signing up, the user is asked what makes them a kind dater. But don’t fill out gibberish and think you are good to go.

The responses that you enter for questions will be “reviewed by a human at Sparked.” And based on this, you will then be evaluated on whether or not you can go on speed dates.

Besides, users will be asked to choose whom they want to date, i.e. men, women, or nonbinary people. Further, it will also ask if you are open to date transgender people as well.

It is unclear how daters connect with each other, as there is no Sparked app live on either Google Play Store or Apple App Store. It is only available on the browser, as of now.

Sparked will be the second dating app from the house of Facebook. There is already a Facebook Dating app operating out of the Facebook app. It was launched back in 2019 in the US.

Now, the app is available in more countries, including the UK. The features of the app are similar to other dating apps. You can view a public profile of the potential match, send a like, connect and start a conversation.

Notably, it will be interesting to see how the Sparked app takes off. Because none of the apps developed by the NPE Team has seen the light of the day.
