Samsung's next rugged smartphone, the Galaxy Xcover 5, is nearing its launch. The device, which bears the model number SM-G525F, has been in the news for quite a while now. It has also picked up a few necessary certifications over the past couple of months. Now the first press render of the upcoming rugged Galaxy smartphone has surfaced on the internet.
Noted leakster Evan Blass has shared a press render of the supposed Galaxy Xcover 5, revealing its front design. The handset doesn't offer anything new that we haven't come to expect from Samsung's affordable rugged smartphones. It's a phone that sacrifices "look and features for durability."
It sports the old-school design as far as the front look is concerned. There's no notch or punch-hole camera system. Instead, you get a huge forehead that has enough space for a front-facing camera as well as other necessary sensors. The chin is equally big while bezels on either side of the display are notably huge as well.
The leaked render shows the phone in black color. The handset has its volume controls and a ridged power button on the right side. The usual programmable Xcover key, which gets a red accent, is on the left side. There are no physical navigation keys on this phone.
Samsung last launched a rugged smartphone in January 2020. The Galaxy Xcover Pro arrived with a mid-range look and specs, and a price tag of $499. However, the upcoming Galaxy Xcover 5 will seemingly be a budget offering, likely a successor to the Galaxy Xcover 4s that launched in mid-2019.
A Geekbench listing in January revealed that the Galaxy Xcover 5 would get the Exynos 850 chipset along with 4GB of RAM. The device would run Android 11 out of the box. The FCC certification a few days later further revealed that it would support 15W fast wired charging. It would also support NFC and will come in both single-SIM as well as dual-SIM variants, probably depending on the region. The Galaxy Xcover 5 also picked up the Bluetooth certification last week, revealing support for Bluetooth 5.0.
Other leaked specs include a 5.3-inch HD+ display, 64GB storage capacity, a 16-megapixel single rear camera setup, a 5-megapixel front camera, a 3000mAh battery, and a USB Type-C port.
Samsung has been quiet about the release of the Galaxy Xcover 5 so far. However, the device has already picked up the FCC and Bluetooth certifications. So it shouldn't be too long before it makes an official appearance. We will keep you updated as and when more details emerge.
