Android 11 is Google’s latest operating system. Yes, Android 12 is already under Developer Preview, but Android 11 is something you have via the stable channel.

Multiple devices, including the ones from Samsung, have already received the Android 11 update. But these devices are fit perfectly with Samsung’s firmware update policy.

Older devices do not stand a chance to receive the Android 11 update officially. Thanks to the open-source nature of Android, owners of older phones can enjoy the latest Android OS on their phones.

Of course, you need to have your phone rooted. The latest phones to get the taste of Android 11 are Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8.

We all are aware that Samsung releases two variants of its S-series and Note series phones. While devices in the US, Canada, China, etc. receive the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, other regions get devices powered by an Exynos chip.

The bootloader unlocking situation on Snapdragon phones is a bit complicated, compared to the Exynos ones. So, if you own an Exynos variant Galaxy S8 or Note 8, then you can enjoy Android 11 on it, thanks to Project Sakura.

Project Sakura is based on Lineage OS 18.1 to provide you with all cool new features

Project Sakura‘s official builds based on Android 11 are now available for Exynos Galaxy S8 and Note 8. Following the steps on the forum, you can flash and enjoy Android 11 OS on these devices.

Since Project Sakura is based on Lineage OS 18.1, you can expect a whole set of goodies and new features on your phone. You will get all Android 11 features with a clean user interface and useful tweaks.

However, do note that these are early builds. Meaning that there are a few features broken and missing at the moment. But that shouldn’t be something pulling you from trying Android 11 on Galaxy S8 or Note 8.

To give you an overview of what’s broken, Hardware Composer (HWC) isn’t working. Moreover, you won’t be able to use a hotspot, HDR video playback is buggy, Wi-Fi direct functionality is not working, and more.

For more information on what’s working and what’s not and to learn how you can flash Android 11 OS on your Samsung Galaxy devices, you can head over here for Galaxy S8 and here for Galaxy Note 8.

Regardless of some features missing, it is pretty exciting to see the Android community keeping older devices like the Galaxy S8 and Noe 8 alive. Make sure that you have a rooted phone, and a custom recovery like TWRP installed to flash this Android 11 ROM.
