The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold may be getting a global variant soon. At the moment, the phone is available in only one market, it’s available in China. We did expect this phone to spread its wings at some point, and it seems like that may happen soon.
A well-known tipster, Mukul Sharma, has spotted the global variant of the phone in the IMEI database. The phone was spotted with a model number “M2011J18G”. It has been spotted in the Indian IMEI database as well.
Both of those listings suggest that the global launch is approaching. Now, that model number may not mean much without an explanation. The model number of the Chinese model is “M2011J18C”. So, it’s identical to this one, with one difference, that letter at the end.
The letter “C” symbolizes a Chinese model, while the letter “G” signals a global model of the phone. This is more or less a confirmation that the global model exists, and is coming.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold launched last month, and it became available to purchase about a week ago in China. This is the company’s very first take on a foldable smartphone.
Xiaomi actually took a similar approach as Samsung did with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and Huawei with the Mate X2. This phone opens up like a book, and it comes with two displays.
Its main display is on the inside, and it measures 8.01 inches. The secondary (cover) display sits on the outside, and it measures 6.52 inches. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, and it comes with plenty of RAM and storage.
We don’t know if both 12GB and 16GB RAM variants will become available globally, we’ll have to wait and see. The cheaper model is made out of glass and metal, while the more expensive one is made out of ceramic and metal. Those two models weigh 317 and 332 grams, respectively, so they’re both quite heavy.
It will be interesting to see how much will the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold cost globally, as it’s quite expensive in China. The phone’s pricing starts at CNY9,999 ($1,539), while the most expensive model costs CNY12,999 ($2,001).
