Twitter seems to have started testing the Spaces feature on Android. According to multiple reports, some Android users are now able to use the new feature that lets you make voice-based conversations on Twitter.

The Spaces feature is Twitter's take on Clubhouse, the invite-only audio-chat app that has gained huge popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. And just like Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces has been exclusive to iOS so far (Clubhouse has announced plans for an Android app).

Several other iOS-exclusive Twitter features such as voice tweets have also yet to make their way to Android. But it appears Twitter is giving the priority to Spaces, as some Android users are now starting to see the new feature on their app.

This testing is likely an early preview for a select few users who are part of the app's beta program. Users have reported that Twitter Spaces is working for them only on a specific beta version of the app. This beta version of Twitter for Android is available on APK mirror if you want to try it out. However, keep in mind that since the feature is not officially rolled out yet, it may not work properly.

As Android Police reports, the UI for captions isn't properly polished and it doesn't even work on some Spaces. Moreover, you can't start your own Space yet on Twitter for Android. However, you can join other's Spaces, "listen to conversations, be a speaker, react using emojis, and view captions," if it works, of course.

Twitter Spaces now available for some Android users

The meteoric rise of Clubhouse during the COVID-19 pandemic prompted several tech giants to develop their own similar products. Social media giants Facebook and Twitter were quick to react as they're seeing a huge potential in the concept of "audio chatrooms."

"The human voice can bring a layer of connectivity to Twitter through emotion, nuance, and empathy often lost in text. We see this with voice tweets and voice DMs. Sometimes 280 isn't enough, and voice gives people another way to join the conversation," Twitter said.

Although Spaces was initially launched on iOS, the company said it's working to bring the feature to Android users as well. Mr. Danny Singh of Twitter has even said that "it should ready sometime in March". And now that the testing has begun, it shouldn't be too long before Twitter Spaces arrives for Android users. We can't wait for the stable rollout.
