Xiaomi’s executives recently suggested that a new tablet is coming this year. Well, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 will probably be its name, and some of its specs have just surfaced.
A Chinese tipster, @panda, revealed the aforementioned specifications. He says that the Mi Pad 5 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 870 SoC or MediaTek Dimensity 1200. The device will, apparently, arrive in both configurations.
Those two configurations will have a different name, apparently. One will be called the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and the other Mi Pad 5 Pro. The rest of the specs will probably be the same.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 is said to feature a large 10.95-inch QHD display. Unfortunately, that display is tipped to be of the LCD variety.
Still, the display will offer a 144Hz refresh rate, and 480Hz touch sampling rate. It will be provided by China Star Optoelectronics and BOE, in case you were wondering.
The tipster also mentioned that this tablet will include 20 and 13-megapixel cameras on the back. A side-facing fingerprint scanner will also be included in the package. That is pretty much everything that he shared.
What’s interesting is that Xiaomi did not release a tablet for the last three years. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 arrived back in June 2018, and it was fueled by the Snapdragon 660 SoC. It featured an 8-inch display.
Xiaomi is looking to offer a larger tablet this time around, which makes sense considering that the phones are huge these days. Most phones have huge displays that are not much smaller than that 8-inch panel on the Mi Pad 4.
On top of that, Xiaomi is looking to offer a more powerful SoC this time around. The Snapdragon 870 won’t be the most powerful one Xiaomi can get its hands on, but it’s almost there. Also, it will help keep the price down, that’s for sure.
